Beyonce‘s 4 opus debuts straight at #1 in the UK, selling 89, 211 copies first week copies. On day one, the record had already sold 32,000 copies - outselling the combined sales of Britain’s top three albums of the minute: Gaga‘s Born This Way, Adele‘s 21 and 19.
Needless to say Beyonce‘s history making Glastonbury performance last Monday had a lot to account for. There’s all sorts of excitement up in the British Beyhive with her previous solo albums Dangerously In Love and I Am Sasha… Fierce shooting back up to #38 and #45 respectively. Over on the singles chart, ‘Best Thing I Never Had’ debuts at #3 and future smash ‘End of Time’ enters at #62 while her classic ‘Irreplaceable’ re-enters at #33.
4 is also predicted to debut at #1 in the US Billboard Hot 200 on Wednesday with estimated first week copies of 300,000. The predicted figures are considerably lower than the first week sales set by previous records I Am… Sasha Fierce (482,000) and B’Day (541,000). Make of it what you will. On the US Dance/Club charts, ‘Run The World (Girls)’ ascends to #1 – making it Queen B’s 12th solo dance chart topper there. Other singles that have made it to the top include 2010′s ‘Why Don’t You Love Me?’ Beyonce‘s 4 debuts at #2 in Australia this week, where it also happens to be the highest selling new album in the country.

Jill Scott scores her first ever #1 album on Billboard Hot 200 with The Light of The Sun, selling a respectable 135,000 copies. The neo-soul/jazz artist has been releasing albums for over 10 years now and this is actually her biggest commercial success yet. Might have something to do with the fiercely independent artist’s new alliance with a major label. They sure came correct in giving this record a push.
LMFAO‘s Sorry For Party Rocking album debuts at #3 in Australia this week. Elsewhere on the singles chart, their collabo with Natalia Kills ‘Champagne Showers’ bullets to #14 while the album’s main dominating smash single ‘Party Rock Anthem’ is still perched at #2.
David Guetta‘s new single ‘Little Bad Girl’ featuring Taio Cruz and Ludacris debuts at #40 in Australia this week. The label is obviously doing their best to rush release the tracks the minute it leaks like they did with its predecessor ‘Where Them Girls At’, which mind you – only premiered its video last week. The forthcoming album Nothing But The Beat hits Aussie shores on 26 August, featuring collaborations with our indie poster girl Sia and diva extraordinaire Jennifer Hudson.

Maroon 5 featuring Christina Aguilera‘s ‘Moves Like Jagger’ is the second most added song on Australian radios this week. Over in the States, it debuted at #2 on the digital charts with a healthy 203,000 downloads. The creative pairing and performance debut on the season finale of The Voice was a hit. Aggie has confirmed that she’ll be returning for season two so you can bet that she’ll have a new album to flog on the show by then. Elsewhere, inaugural winner of The Voice Javier Colon‘s debut single ‘Stitch by Stitch’ (produced by Darkchild) enters at #57 on the US R&B/Hip Hop charts. His cover of Coldplay‘s ‘Fix You’ debuts at #52 in the US Billboard Hot 100.
According to Billboard, digital track sales are showing no sign of slowing down. It’s absolutely the future and as labels continue to make downloads more readily available. As of the 29 June, the year to date track sales were at 635.35 million – up 10% compared to the same total at this point last year, which was 575.96 million.
Christina Perri‘s ‘Jar of Hearts’ has gone #3 in Australia thanks to some positive radio support. Elsewhere, Miley Cyrus‘ Can’t Be Tamed album shoots up for the second consecutive week thanks to the tour. It’s now sitting at #18 on our ARIA charts.
Wynter Gordon‘s With The Music I Die is showing a bit of staying power in its second week, dipping only slightly from #25 to #26. Over on the singles chart, ‘Til Death’ ascends to its previous peak of #16. My gurl had just released the six-track EP over in the States where it climbed as high as #5 on the American iTunes charts in the first 48 hours. Let’s see what happens when the Billboard charts come in on Wednesday. ‘Til Death’ had soared to #14 on the US Dance/Club charts after only four weeks.
Britney‘s ‘I Wanna Go’ debuts at #33 in Australia this week. Have you guys clocked the handful of official UK remixes her label had uploaded? Check it out here. She will reportedly drop a new remix album soon to accompany the release of her tenth signature fragrance ‘Cosmic Radiance’. It’s all expected to unfold next month.
Sneaky Sound System‘s ‘We Love’ moves to a new peak of #32. The duo are currently on a national tour to give y’all a taste of the forthcoming album so expect for this single to keep rising on the charts. The new album From Here to Anywhere will drop on 26 August.
Coldplay‘s ‘Every Teardrop is a Waterfall’ cops a Glastonbury-fuelled surge back up the charts as it travels from #42 to #10 in the UK this week. The band’s headlining gig also saw old singles returning to the Top 75 – check ‘In My Place’ (#40), ‘Fix You’ (#47), ‘Viva La Vida’ (#51), ‘Yellow’ (#59) and ‘The Scientist’ (#68). Gawd, they’ve had some good hits, haven’t they?

Janelle Monae‘s incredible The ArchAndroid cracks the UK charts at #67 this week. I guess for a lot of folks over there, she was the big breakout revelation at Glastonbury – that energy and charisma is stuff of legendary proportions. It’s a shame she never came to Australia.
Pitbull‘s Planet Pit debuts in the US Billboard Hot 200 at #7, pulling 55,000 first week copies to become his second US Top 10 album.
Nicole Scherzinger‘s ‘Right There’ continues to grow in the US where it has reached a new peak of #62 on the Billboard Hot 100. In Australia, the single was just serviced to radios this week with the revamped US version of the album slated to hit shelves on 12 August. I’m surprised the new songs haven’t leaked yet.
Selena Gomez & The Scene‘s extremely likeable ‘Love You Like A Love Song’ debuts at #47 on the US digital charts and #72 on the Billboard Hot 100. The previous single ‘Who Says’ moves up to #5 on the dance charts. I seriously think that out of all your Disney-spawned popstars, Selena Godmez is my fave. That vocal tone of hers is so incredibly sexy and the songs are utter guilty pleasure. It’s a shame she doesn’t get much of a push in Australia.
Afrojack and Eva Simons’ ‘Take Over Control’ may have been a smash for us here in Australia earlier this year but folks in America are only getting into now as they approach summer. Kinda like the belated discovery of Martin Solveig‘s ‘Hello’, ‘Take Over Control’ is now gradually climbing up the Billboard Hot 100 – reaching #89.
Chart snack: one of my biggest K-pop obsessions 2NE1 sees their ferocious new single ‘I Am The Best’ debut at #4 on the South Korean Gaon Charts. Elsewhere, the repackaged version of f(x)‘s Hot Summer [Editor's note: yes, kids - it's a Korean cover of Monrose and our dancing queen Rhys' smash] rises to #2.
